We have been on the YWAM L.A. base for about a month and a half, and God has been doing some incredible things! Robert has been learning some valuable things in his School of Ministry Development and we have been involved with the base’s Skate Ministry. Every Friday we join a group of YWAMers and visit a local skate park where we barbeque, share the gospel, and love on the youth and homeless that hang out there. God has been moving in incredible ways. I would like to share a couple stories with you.
Jason has been clean from Heroin for just over 30 days. He is living in a half-way house called. He knows there is a God and frequently prays that God would help him to make it through the day sober. His girlfriend Denise has been clean about the same amount of time and she is hungry to know God. They have the desire to live a better life and make something of themselves. Jason once aspired to be a teacher, but due to several criminal charges he now feels like there is really no place or purpose for him. Robert met these two last Friday. Jason was sharing that he had a desire to meet someone who could relate to him and walk through his journey to stay clean and discover who God is. Robert sat and shared his testimony with Jason for about four hours. During this time Spencer joined the group. He had made it clear in the past that he was uninterested in the gospel. By the end of the conversation Jason, Denise, and Spencer all gave their lives to Christ. We are really looking forward to discipling and mentoring these three as they learn what it really means to have a relationship with Christ. Duffy has a beautiful baby girl, she is just over a year old. Duffy struggles with alcoholism. His wife is a heroin addict and has given guardianship of their daughter to her mother who is almost 7o years old. Duffy knows the bible in and out, and has an incredible anointing on his life. Robert recently met Duffy and was blown away by is knowledge of the bible. What Duffy lacks is a real understanding of who God is and what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. In April Robert and Shaun helped Duffy enter a Christian rehabilitation center. Duffy has the desire to know God and to serve him with his life. He wants to be a good father for his daughter and an example for his wife. Duffy has a 30 day “black out” period where he is unable to speak to anyone outside of the rehab. After this 30 days we will be able to spend time with Duffy, sharing Jesus with him and walking through his recovery and new faith in Jesus. We are hoping that Duffy is able to turn his life over to God, and become an incredible father to his little girl. Sarah is a young soon to be single mom. She is eight months pregnant and nowhere near ready for her son to be born. She has had a difficult pregnancy, and hasn’t had anyone to answer all the questions an expecting mother has. I first heard Sarah’s story when I was in Thailand and was anxious to meet her. Since coming to L.A I have been trying to figure out how to find her. Last Friday Robert and I were at the skate park with our group when I noticed a cute pregnant girl and her sister sitting near a blanket on the grass. I approached them and asked how far along she was. As we began talking she poured out her story, fears, and questions. I was able to answer so many of them, and as I did I realized who she was! I started shaking as I told her that I had been praying for her since January and had been anxious to meet her. I shared my heart for pregnant teens and pregnant single moms. She was thrilled and asked if I would help prepare mentally for delivery and walk through her fears with her. God has an incredible plan for Sarah and I am honored that I get to walk through the last stretch of her pregnancy with her. For us missions goes so far beyond sharing the gospel and seeing salvations. While evangelism is a huge part of our lives, we desire to walk with people after they make a decision for Christ to answer their questions and be an example of a relationship with Jesus. We want to meet people where they are addicted, broken, lonely, angry, or ordinary. We want to disciple and help people realize their potential and then watch them turn around and give to others. We are doing this at the skate park, on the YWAM base in Discipleship Training Schools, and overseas. Please pray for us as we live out the vision God has given us. We are at a point now where we are thinking about the future and what God has planned. We feel him calling us to a commitment here in L.A of two years. This will be a time to serve God and grow in the passion he has given us. We will have the opportunity to live the vision he has given us. In order to do this we have to have support. The base requires that just to start we have $1250 pledged a month. Right now we are at $370. We are in the process of meeting with people and calling them about supporting us monthly. We have broken up each month into 30 days and are trying to raise $50 per day. We are asking people to cover a half of a day or more per month. If you are interested in supporting us please call or email. You can reach us at 559-760-5160 and also at [email protected]. We thank all of you for your support and for being a part of what God is doing in L.A and around the world.
